Captain Nathaniel Lemmon and I has been trying to get out on tailing
reds in Titusville for a long time. Every time we set a date the winds
they would blow so since we were after tailing reds the rain checks
were plenty.
Today however it suppose to be dead calm. I am up
at 2:50am to make the drive over to Nate's house. With no traffic, I
arrive before 5:30am. So far so good, now the only thing we needed to
do was find the tailing reds and hope no one intrudes.
It
didn't take long for Nate to locate them. They were tailing and happy.
Nate poled his Lostmen following the happy pod of 40" fish for over 2
hours, while I snapped away countless photos. When I finally had enough
photos we decided to try and catch one.
Nate's 1st cast hook
up but he hooked pulled. 2nd Cast again the weedless setup failed us.
3rd time's the Charm... we boated this nice fish for some photo ops.
With the sun high, the temperature up with no win we tried a couple
times on fly with no success. We called it a day around lunch time and
left them tailing.
Thanks Nate.. it was worth the wait!

I
got invited out on this glass calm day on Captain Jim Lemke's boat.
Though he's been doing pretty good on the Tarpon he wanted to take
advantage of these calm conditions and try to get a permit. On board
with us was William and Captain Brian Epperosn. Brian has never caught
a permit so he was anxious to get his 1st to the boat.
Our 1st
stop held lots of bait but the only thing we pulled to the boat was a
cuda. Brian dropped down deep and pulled up an amber jack which got
quickly inhaled by a large Goliath.
We moved on to another on
of Jim's number. He assured me this one held permit. We were not
disappointed and fittingly Brian lands the 1st one. He was thrilled
with his 1st permit. We got a couple more and decided to run back in
around noon before the winds picked up.
On the way in we bumped into Tommyz and Spencer (with a new hair cut I might add).
Thanks Jim had a great time and I manage to capture some great images.
